A great sadness has invaded the household. We were playing online in Rock Band last night with Noah, my nephew, who recently got the game for Christmas. Shortly after a good run on “Should I stay or Should I go” I noticed a slight indentation on my yellow drum pad. This is the pad that is used for the high hat, and thusly, one of the most often hit.

The drum pads are built kind of like an electric drum kit (although a bit cheaper of course) and the pad is just a slab of plastic with a rubber pad on top. Underneath is a Piezoelectric sensor that detects the drum hits. The pad is held onto the rack by small rubber spacers. I popped off the yellow pad to look at the underside and low and behold:

Sure enough, the plastic had cracked. Apparently I had been wailing a tad too hard for this kit, or it was just doomed to fail from the get go. I contacted EA games and went through the RMA process (like I had done with the guitar only about 3 weeks prior). The new kit should be shipped out soon, but in the mean time, I am without drum kit ):
